Running behind

The last two days, we have been on the road all day and so I have not kept up on my postings. I will try to catch up (not ketchup, which is brought to our table either with resignation or with an attitude).

Yesterday, we had a rainbow out the back door. Not bad.

Then we headed out and saw La Rochelle, as Vicki mentioned. Pretty cool place and some good food. I'll be trying to make mussels on our return.

Below is another shot of the Museum of Protestant History. Very nice guy who spoke 3.5 languages gave Vicki some good leads.

Many buildings have a little bit extra on them. This gargoyle is on one of the La Rochelle buildings.

I visited a couple of museums that Vicki would not like. First was a museum of miniatures - cars, ships, etc. The final display was a whole room of model trains and the like. Much fun.

The second was a museum of robots. Some dated back to the end of the 19th century and only had one movement. Others had multiple movements and went up top the late 20th century. My overwhelming thought is that most 21st century kids would expect so much more.

Today, we went to Guerande, in Brittany. Below is a medieval fortress that now encloses a market (where we bought lettuce, potatoes, salt, caramel, etc.) and many shops. More good food - moules frites and cider - as well as pistachio ice cream, cafe au lait, caramels with sea salt, meringues the size of a grapefruit, etc.

This is the medieval tower and wall.

This is a meal that was much enjoyed.

This is only a sign in the last place we ate.

La Guerande is known for its (often) grey sea salt, actually harvested by hand from pools of sea water. We are bringing some home for cooking.

Other than that, it is bedtime. I quit.

(Edit from Vicki: Gabi and Reginald have twisted our arms for a nightcap. They are clearly enablers, and we love it/them!)

  1. Now I have TWO books to send you. I have another novel in which Nantes and Guerande figure prominently.
