While Dan is in a museum of robots or something, I am sitting in a park on the La Rochelle harbor, into which the waters of the Atlantic flow. From here, I can see the chain tower which might have allowed the ship carrying my ancestor, Jean de Jarnat, to leave France for the new country. (The photo is actually taken from the other side of the tower because the view from this side has all of the seating and tents set up for what must be a sound and light show, which are very big over here.
The day here has been very nice so far. To recap our eating experiences, which are tres important lest we waste away to nothing, we started with crepes and cafe au lait, referred to in my previous post. For dejeuner, we had moules-frites with a Breton cidre. Moules are mussels, and they were cooked with onions in a vin blanc. This was a new and delicious experience for us both.
While in our way to see cool stuff, we passed a patisserie that had these macarons on display:
So that covers our gastronomical feasts.

Après lunch, we walked to one of the cathedrals, which is across from the market. I poo-pooed it because it was built so recently (in the 1700s). We walked thru the market to the Museum of Protestant History, hoping to find some info on our boy, Jean. No such luck, but I got some leads and a photo of the church where Protestants were allowed to worship.
Dan is back. Time to hunt down a pistache ice cream machine. :)
