Thus far, today has been a real chore. Following last night's feast of roast, potatoes roasted on sel de mer, and wine, followed by Cointreau and cigars, we woke to a beautiful, cloudless, windy day. After breakfast, Dan and I walked to Cesbron Chocolatiers, which is just inside the village of St. Georges des Gardes, a little over a mile from La Giro. We left with a bag full of pralinés and ganaches and several containers of noisette à la pâte de noisette, which is a better-than-Nutella spread. The gentlemen at the chocolaterie make all of their own products on site, and they are very generous with samples. Any calories that we may have burned in the walk were easily replaced just by looking at the display cases in the store.

Lunch consisted of a lovely tomato and cheese salad (tomatoes courtesy of Slyman), charcuterie, cheeses, rosé and vin blanc, and chocolates. We ate in the sun, and even with the temperature reaching 85 degrees f, it is very pleasant to be outside. There is no humidity, and there is a constant breeze (with occasional gusts, which will send napkins flying... But that gives us our between-course exercise.

Naps were followed by lazing by the pool, reading, and planning dinner, which will consist of jambon and cheese galettes and crepes. C'est la vie difficile.
